A wildlife volunteer on an uninhabited island off the British coast descends into a terrifying madness that challenges her grip on reality and pushes her into a living nightmare. Shot on 16mm film and set in 1973, Enys Men (2023) evokes the feeling of discovering a reel of never-before-seen celluloid unspooling in a haunted movie palace.
About the filmmaker:
Mark Jenkin is a Cornish director, editor, screenwriter, cinematographer and producer recognized for his hand-processed celluloid narrative filmmaking. Jenkin’s projects include experimental short films, music videos, and feature films. He wrote and directed the film Bait (2019), which earned him a BAFTA Award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. His follow-up Enys Men (2023), an experimental folk horror film, premiered in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. In 2020, Jenkin was recognized as a Cornish Bard for his work promoting Cornwall’s heritage.
