Produced by Janie Hendrix, George Scott and John McDermott and directed by McDermott, the film features exclusive interviews with Steve Winwood, Experience bassist Billy Cox, and original Electric Lady staff members who helped Hendrix realize his dream. The documentary includes never-before-seen footage and photos as well as track breakdowns of Hendrix classics such as “Freedom,” “Angel,” and “Dolly Dagger” by recording engineer Eddie Kramer.
About the filmmaker:
John McDermott is an American film director and producer who is best known for his work on music documentaries. His directorial debut was the 2015 documentary Jimi Hendrix Electric Church, a PBS film tracing Hendrix’s journey through his legendary performance at the 1970 Atlanta International Pop Festival. McDermott’s sophomore directorial effort—a documentary detailing The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1970 visit to Maui to film Rainbow Bridge (1972) titled Music, Money, Madness…Jimi Hendrix in Maui (2022)—earned a 2022 Grammy nomination for Best Music Film.
