About the filmmaker:
Savanah Leaf has transitioned from 2012 Olympian to accomplished director and photographer whose work weaves art and creativity with a deep humanity and poignant social commentary. Her first feature film Earth Mama (2023) premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, New Directors/New Films, and won the Audience Award at SFFILM. Her music video “This Land” for Gary Clark Jr. was nominated for Best Music Video at the 2020 Grammys. Her recent short film The Heart Still Hums (2020) screened at DOC NYC and earned Best Documentary Short at BlackStar Film Festival and Nashville Film Festival and Best Documentary at Palm Springs ShortFest. Leaf’s experience as part of the Great Britain Volleyball team gives her a unique insight into the work of an athlete competing at the highest level, and she has applied this skillset to successful collaborations with Nike, Adidas, and Fila, among others.
