About the filmmaker:
Alejandro González Iñárritu is a Mexican filmmaker known for his emotionally powerful, visually striking films that explore human connection, identity, and survival. He first gained international acclaim with Amores Perros (2000) and went on to direct critically celebrated works including Babel (2006), Birdman (2014), and The Revenant (2015), winning Academy Awards for Best Director for both Birdman and The Revenant. Iñárritu was also awarded a Special Achievement Academy Award for his virtual reality short film Carne y Arena (2017), the first ever VR installation to be presented at the Cannes Film Festival. Digger (2026) is his eighth feature film.
