About the film:
World Premiere, 2007 Venice Film Festival. A television reporter and cameraman follow emergency workers into a dark apartment building and are quickly locked inside with something terrifying.
This film spawned the [REC] film series, which includes three sequels: REC 2 directed by Balagueró and Plaza in 2009, REC 3: Genesis directed by Plaza in 2012, and REC 4: Apocalypse directed by Balagueró in 2014 as the final installment in the franchise.
About the filmmakers:
Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza are Spanish film directors known for creating the acclaimed REC series. They first worked together on the documentary O.T: La Película in 2002. Balagueró’s first film, Alicia (1994) won the prize for Best Short film at the Sitges Film Festival. His most recent, Venus (2022), premiered in the Midnight Madness at TIFF 2022. Plaza’s most recent film, Sister Death (2023), is a prequel to his 2017 film Verónica, and opened Sitges Film Festival 2023 and was later distributed by Netflix.
Balagueró and Plaza’s REC (2008) is considered one of the best found footage and horror films.
