On November 29, 2002, one year after the passing of George Harrison, Olivia Harrison and longtime friend Eric Clapton organized a performance tribute in his honor. Held at London’s Royal Albert Hall, the momentous evening featured George’s songs, and music he loved, performed by a lineup that included Clapton, Joe Brown, Dhani Harrison, Jools Holland, Jeff Lynne, Paul McCartney, Monty Python, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Ravi and Anoushka Shankar, Ringo Starr and many more.

Directed by David Leland and photographed by Academy Award-winning cinematographer Chris Menges, Concert for George captures stunning renditions of some of the most significant music of the 20th century. The film has been certified 8-times platinum by the RIAA since its initial release in November 2003 and was awarded Best Long Form Music Video at the 46th Annual Grammy Awards.
About the filmmaker:
David Leland is an English film director, screenwriter and actor. He earned international recognition for his directorial debut Wish You Were Here, winning the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival and a BAFTA for best screenplay in 1988. Among other projects, he wrote the Golden Globe-nominated screenplay for Neil Jordan’s Mona Lisa (1986) and the screenplay for Terry Jones’s Personal Services (1987). He wrote and directed Episode 6 of the Emmy Award-winning HBO series Band of Brothers in 2000 and joined the Showtime series The Borgias as co-showrunner and executive producer in 2012. He directed music videos for the Traveling Wilburys, Paul McCartney, and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, as well as the Grammy Award-winning tribute film Concert for George (2003) for his friend George Harrison.
