About the filmmaker:

Darren Aronofsky is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter known for his surreal, melodramatic, and often disturbing films. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and attended Harvard University, where he studied social anthropology and filmmaking. Aronofsky’s notable works include Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, Noah, mother!, and The Whale. He is also known for his environmental activism and his production company, Protozoa Pictures.
