In this chilling adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel, withdrawn and sensitive teen Carrie White faces taunting from classmates at school and abuse from her fanatically pious mother at home. When strange occurrences start happening around Carrie, she begins to suspect that she has supernatural powers. Invited to the prom by the empathetic Tommy Ross, Carrie tries to let her guard down, but things eventually take a dark and violent turn.

a terrifying lyrical thriller.”

Sissy Spacek was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Lead Actress for her intensely emotional performance, and Piper Laurie earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her haunting portrayal of Carrie White’s religiously fervent abusive mother.

About the filmmaker:

Brian De Palma is an American film director and writer. Through his career spanning five decades, he became most well known for his suspense and crime thriller films, including such box office hits like Scarface (1983), The Untouchables (1987), and Mission: Impossible (1996). For his viscerally disturbing and stylistic work on genre films such as Carrie (1976), Dressed to Kill (1980), Raising Cain (1992), and Mission to Mars (2000), De Palma has been praised as the heir to Alfred Hitchcock’s legacy as the “Master of the Macabre.” Carrie (1976), the original adaptation of the Stephen King novel by the same name, has gone down in cinematic history for its iconic use of fake blood and the haunting performances of Sissy Spacek (as Carrie White) and Piper Laurie (as Margaret White).
