Blue Beetle (2023) introduces Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle, the first major Latino superhero in DC Comics’ film history.
Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Blue Beetle.
About the filmmaker:
Ángel Manuel Soto is a Puerto Rican film director, producer, and screenwriter whose work has screened at Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, and Fantastic Fest, among other festivals. He directed the feature films The Farm (2015) and Charm City Kings (2020), which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival where it won a Special Jury Award for Ensemble Cast. His short form works include 22weeks (2009), La Carta (2011), El Púgil (2016), and the acclaimed 3D virtual reality experience Dinner Party (2018). He was selected to direct the DC Comics Super Hero film Blue Beetle (2023), the first live-action film to feature a Latino superhero as the lead.
