About the film:

Official Selection of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival. An American filmmaking couple retreat to the island for the summer to each write screenplays for their upcoming films in an act of pilgrimage to the place that inspired Bergman. As the summer and their screenplays advance, the lines between reality and fiction start to blur against the backdrop of the Island’s wild landscape.

About the filmmaker:

Born in 1981, actress, screenwriter and director Mia Hansen-Løve is known for crafting personal stories centered on the emotional journeys of her characters. She studied at the Conservatoire D’art Dramatique in Paris and directed several short films before winning prizes at Cannes for her first two features, All is Forgiven and Father of My Children. Her other acclaimed features include Goodbye First Love, Eden, Maya and Things to Come, which earned her Best Director at Berlin in 2016.

Inspired by Ingmar Bergman, Hansen-Løve’s English-language debut, Bergman Island, is a film about writing and creating. Read more from the filmmaker here.
