About the film:

Two American tourists, David and Jack, are savaged by an unidentified vicious animal whilst hiking on the Yorkshire Moors. David awakens in a London hospital to find his friend dead and his life in disarray. Retiring to the home of a beautiful nurse to recuperate, he soon experiences disturbing changes to his mind and body, undergoing a full-moon transformation that will unleash terror on the streets of the capital.

An American Werewolf in London (1981) had audiences howling with laughter and recoiling in terror upon its cinema release. John Landis’ film has gone on to become one of the most important horror films of its decade, rightly lauded for its masterful set-pieces, uniquely unsettling atmosphere and Rick Baker’s truly ground-breaking, Academy Award-winning special make-up effects.

About the filmmaker:

John Landis is an influential American film director, producer, screenwriter and actor whose career spans a range of genres. He is best known directing some of the seminal comedies of the century, including The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977), National Lampoon’s Animal House (1978), The Blues Brothers (1980), An American Werewolf in London (1981), Trading Places (1983), Three Amigos (1986), and Coming to America (1988), and for directing Michael Jackson’s groundbreaking music video for “Thriller” in 1983 followed by “Black or White” in 1991. Landis has received recognition for his body of work, including a lifetime achievement award at the 74th Locarno Film Festival in 2021.
