Born into an upper-class family with a doting mother who foots the bill for her indolent lifestyle, 24-year-old combative Amanda (emerging talent Benedetta Porcaroli) searches for boyfriends but only finds misfits who are repelled by her intensity. She longs for connection but has never had a friend of her own… until she discovers a long lost childhood bond, spurring a mission to convince another recluse that they are still best friends.

A playful, provocative feature debut from writer-director Carolina Cavalli.

About the filmmakers:

Carolina Cavalli is an Italian writer and director born in Milan. She premiered her feature debut Amanda (2023) at the Horizons Extra section of the 2022 Venice Film Festival and internationally at the Toronto International Film Festival. Her career as a screenwriter kicked off after she won the Italian screenwriting prize Premio Solinas in 2018. She worked in writing rooms for five years before starting work on Amanda (2023). As a co-writer, she was the recipient of the SFFILM/Rainin Filmmaking Development Grant in 2018 for the feature film Fremont (with Iranian film director and producer, Babak Jalali) which premiered at Sundance in 2023 and screened at the SXSW Film Festival. Cavalli also published her first novel, “Metropolitania” in 2022.
