Alien: Romulus (2024) takes the phenomenally successful “Alien” franchise back to its roots. While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young space colonizers come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
About the filmmaker:
Federico Álvarez is a Uruguayan filmmaker who is well known for directing genre films. He began his filmmaking career by direct the 2013 reboot of the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead (2013). The film was praised for revitalizing the franchise—over 20 years after its previous installment—with a grittier, gorier edge. Evil Dead (2013) won a handful of genre film awards, including Fright Meter Awards for Best Makeup and Special Effects and a Fangoria Chainsaw Award for Best Makeup/Creature Effects. Álvarez’s follow-up film Don’t Breathe (2016) premiered at the 2016 SXSW Film Festival and was celebrated for offering a unique spin on a familiar horror trope. He also directed The Girl in the Spider’s Web (2018), the fourth film adaptation of the Millennium series novels. Álvarez is once again taking on the task of reimagining a classic horror franchise with his latest film Alien: Romulus (2024).
