Requiem for a Dream (2000) premiered out of competition at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival and screened Toronto Film Festival. The film garnered 37 wins and 69 nominations, with Ellen Burstyn receiving Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Actress.

About the filmmaker:

Darren Aronofsky is an acclaimed American film director, producer, and screenwriter. His stories, some of the most memorable of the last two decades, are noted for their surrealistic, melodramatic, and sometimes disturbing elements as well as an unconventional spirituality and environmental activism. In 1997, he founded the production company Protozoa Pictures, and created the feature films Pi (1998), Requiem for a Dream (2000), The Fountain (2006), The Wrestler (2008), Black Swan (2010)Noah (2014), and Mother! (2017). He studied film and social anthropology at Harvard before studying directing at the American Film Institute.
